The Department began its activities in the academic year 1954-1955 (then under the name Faculty of Economics and Business) with its headquarters on the second floor of the building of today's Faculty of Law in Via Università.

In 1965 it moved to its current location in Via J. F. Kennedy, after a donation of land from the City of Parma where by the work of Eng. Cornelli an extremely modern and at the same time traditional building was constructed.

Although in its short history, many professors of national renown and outstanding scientific abilities such as Prof. Egidio Giannessi, Prof. Lino Azzini, Prof. Carlo Masini, Prof. Giovanni Ferrero.

Not to be forgotten, for their loyalty to the Department of Economics of Parma, Prof. Eugenio Levi for the area of Mathematics and Prof. Franco Feroldi for the area of Political Economy.

As a result of the reorganization of the University, as of January 2017 the Department of Economics is transformed into the Department of Economics and Business Sciences.
