Brief description
The UGREENS project aims to explore how far universities contribute to creating a zero-emission society and economy through education and research. It focuses on the Italian university system and its role in the transition to more sustainable production practices. The National Recovery and Resilience Plan sees this transition as a key goal. Universities are seen as crucial actors in developing the skills needed for this transformation.
Currently, we know little about the contribution of universities to this challenge. UGREENS aims to answer the question: how do the teaching and research activities of Italian universities support the green transition? The project will produce three main contributions.
- Integration of green knowledge: UGREENS will examine how much knowledge related to the topic of environmental sustainability is present in the courses offered by universities, collecting data on how these contribute to the formation of green skills.
- Evolution of research: UGREENS will analyze how the focus of universities on sustainability issues has developed over time and how this has affected teaching activities, identifying the universities most active in the production of "green" knowledge.
- Local Impact: UGREENS will investigate how education and research on sustainability issues produced by universities influence economic and productive activities in local areas.
Finally, the project will contribute to a better understanding of the role of universities in the green transition through the creation of a data platform, freely accessible and usable for future research. The results will help improve policy design to facilitate the transition to an environmentally and socially sustainable economy.
