►Locandina

Abstract:
Natural disasters and human-made hazards are inevitable in our society. Engineers respond by designing autonomous vehicles that prevent accidence, making earthquake-proof buildings, developing life saving medical equipment. Actuaries answer by designing innovative insurance products to reduce and mitigate the financial losses of car accidents, earthquakes, and make medical care available to those in dire need. Therefore, actuaries are sometimes nicked named “risk engineers”.
This talk aims to illustrate fundamental principles of risk management embedded in equity-linked insurance and how they are utilized to engineer a wide variety of investment guarantees.  It also offers a glimpse of technical development and challenges arising from the life and annuity industry in the United States.

Biofrafia:
Runhuan Feng is an Associate Professor of Mathematics and the Director of Actuarial Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst. He is the State Farm Companies Foundation Scholar in Actuarial Science. Over the recent years, he has dedicated his efforts to developing computational methods for risk assessment and management in areas of investment combined insurance and retirement planning. He led the Society of Actuaries' first survey on nested stochastic modeling for insurance companies and performed subsequent research study to create resources for financial reporting actuaries on computational methods to speed up nested simulations. Runhuan also has keen interest on risk analysis and data analytics for regulation and public policy making. His work in collaboration with State Universities Annuitants Association and a state legislator led to a legislative proposal to address the underfunding issue of the Illinois retirement systems.
