CALL: PRIN: RESEARCH PROJECTS OF RELEVANT NATIONAL INTEREST - Call for proposals 2022

TITLE: A European study on ESG-literacy, financial advisory and investors' perception of sustainability

DURATION: 24 months from 09/28/2023 to 09/27.2025

RESPONSIBLE: Prof.ssa Cucinelli Doriana (Unit Head)

ERC (European Research Council) SECTOR:SH 1 - "Individuals, Markets and Organisations"

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

Brief description

The ultimate goal of the project is to define a scale for measuring ESG literacy and ESG financial literacy. In addition, the project intends to investigate the socio-demographic and economic characteristics of individuals who show a lower level of literacy (both general ESG and ESG financial literacy), in order to be able to define a sketch of the people who most need to increase the level of literacy related to sustainability issues. Through the use of different theories, which have already been tested in the literature-such as the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Implicit Association Test (IAT)-it is also intended to understand the relationship between ESG knowledge and sustainable financial behavior. The project aims to build a representative European sample of adult individuals through the administration of a questionnaire. The results will help shed light on the specific characteristics of individuals with high/low ESG literacy on the one hand, and on the other hand, to better understand how ESG skills affect sustainable financial behaviors, as envisioned by the European Commission's Action Plan.
