Brief description

This project investigates the importance of e-sports in contemporary society, delving into their growing popularity and both their social and economic impact. Despite their success, the phenomenon of e-sports has not yet been the subject of a systematic analysis defining its theoretical basis and practical implications. There are different game cultures in the Eastern and Western contexts, and although traditional sports institutions are approaching e-sports, there is still no single definition. As of 2020, the International Olympic Committee has included some virtual disciplines, but their status within traditional sports remains uncertain. In addition, uniform global and national regulations are lacking, and there are safety and welfare risks, especially for minors. Crucial issues such as game time management, inclusiveness, gender equality, and protection against violence and malpractice require urgent legal responses.

The proposed project plans to analyze legal solutions in detail, collecting factual and statistical data to provide an empirical perspective on health, safety, and human rights. The analysis will involve interdisciplinary research units and will have an international impact, with theoretical and empirical methods used in collaboration with public and private partners.
