FAQ on final proof

Everything you'd like to know about the final test, but (maybe) wouldn't dare ask

The exam consists of a written test on a topic chosen by the graduate student from a shortlist of topics usually proposed by the Department's professors. The final test taken with an investigating committee is then followed by a career evaluation and the awarding of a graduate grade by the graduate committee.

On the Department's website you will find:

- six Committees for the Economics and Management (CLEM) course and other first-cycle degree courses from previous curricula;

- two Committees for the Food system: sustainability, management and technologies (FOOD System) degree course.

Each professor on the committee proposes at least three topics. Choose the committee professor you prefer from those listed for your course and register for the final exam with the professor and related committee you choose.
Beware however: each professor accepts, for each degree session, a maximum of ten students (twenty for Prof. Guido Cristini - FOOD System degree course) and inscriptions are accepted in chronological order. Consult the topics with the reference texts proposed by the professors in good time, and identify a possible "second choice".

Seven weeks before the start of the graduate session. Inscriptions remain open for two weeks. The period for inscription is indicated in the graduation deadline calendar posted on the Department's website.

Yes, you still have to meet the inscription deadlines for the final exam, even if you still have to take the last exam(s) before graduation.

No, you may NOT,inscription is binding. Therefore, before enrolling, carefully consider all possibilities, with special reference to the bibliography of each topic.

On the Department website, you will find the link to your degree course that then takes you to the page for committee inscription.

You must fill out the degree application in ESSE3 by meeting the deadlines. On the University's website you will find the "Application for graduation guide" that will help you in the process to follow. In the guide you will also find the indication of Support Offices to contact if you encounter difficulties in following it or if you need more information.

No, undergraduates are convened for the final examination on the days scheduled in the teaching calendar for the final examination. The exact date is posted on the department website, "Committees and Outcomes" section, in a timely manner. An ID is required on the day of the test.

Being a written test, it is taken in advance of the "graduate session" (about 15 days before). The week in which it is held is indicated by the teaching calendar
In the week of the "graduation session" indicated by the teaching calendar, the Teaching Committee (without the undergraduates) meets to assign the graduate grade, which is then published on the department website, "Committees and Outcomes" section.

Next to the list of topics you will find the bibliographic material you need.

The outcome of the test (passed/failed) is published on the Department website, "Committees and Outcomes" section, about two weeks before the date set for the final ceremony.

Yes, depending on the order of studies your course is part of, you can take:

  • degree course CLEM, matriculated a.a. 2009/2010 and later: zero to 2 points; if the grade was not sufficient, you should retake the test in one of the subsequent degree courses;
  • FOOD System degree course: zero to 2 points; if the grade was not sufficient, you should retake the test in one of the subsequent degree courses;
  • other first-cycle degree courses, matriculated a.a. 2008/2009 and earlier: from zero to five points; if the grade was zero, you should retake the test in one of the subsequent graduation sessions.

Points are not published but forwarded to the Graduation Committee for the formulation of the graduation grade.

In the week indicated by the teaching calendar for the graduation session (not the one indicated for the final exam), the Teaching Committee, which meets without undergraduates present, adds your final exam grade to your exam grade point average and career points awarded and assigns you your graduation grade, which is posted on the Department website, "Committees and Outcomes" section. On the day your graduation committee meets, you are awarded your degree and, finally, you are a graduate!

The final graduation ceremony consists of a symbolic event involving only graduates and their family and friends who wish to attend, and is held for blocks of graduates on the two days indicated by the teaching calendar. The final ceremony is held by three professors from the department/degree course.

No, participation is not mandatory. It is not a proclamation since you are already a graduate, but only a symbolic event.

For logistical and consequently security reasons, you may invite maximum 10 guests.
