TITLE: Transforming healthcare in the post covid era: sustainability and value of telemedicine - RELIEVE and SAVE

DURATION: 24 months from 09/28/2023 to 09/27.2025

RESPONSIBLE: Prof. Fanelli Simone (Principal Investigator)

ERC (European Research Council) SECTOR:SH 1 - "Individuals, Markets and Organisations"

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 3: Health and well-being

Brief description

The "RELIEVE and SAVE" project aims to develop an analysis model to examine the sustainability of telemedicine services and evaluate the elements used in their implementation and management. The project is particularly relevant in light of the critical issues highlighted by the pandemic, such as spatial inequalities and poor integration between hospital and community services, as well as the shortage of digital skills in the health sector. Using a qualitative-quantitative methodology, the project will focus on case studies on various aspects of telemedicine, with the aim of identifying best practices and developing a model to evaluate the sustainable use of health technology.

The project has three main pillars:

1) analyze changes in the health sector related to telemedicine,

2) assess the impacts of telemedicine on cost and quality, and

3) examine economic and organizational choices in care delivery.

Involving several organizations and Research Units throughout Italy, the project aims to provide a solid knowledge base to support investments in digital health by facilitating the assessment of the economic and sustainable benefits of such investments, particularly in the context of the allocation of PNRR resources for the development of telemedicine and digital health (approximately 2.5 billion euros).
